I just had this discussion AGAIN with my GM the other day, about needing to take a break from raiding. We've got 6/8 HM DS on farm, and we're now just beating our heads against Spine. It's the end of an Xpac and lets all be honest, we're tired of looking at Org/Stormwind again.
This time he actually agreed to take a solid week of from raiding, and man oh man has it done wonders. Played some D3, relaxed, caught up on projects, and I personally feel more ready to take on DS once more.
I agree to a point that MoP will make or break the game for a large percentage of people. Great post!

Speak up x 1000 !

If you don't know what the fork to do, then please, PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GAWD tell us.

Would rather explain a fight than do it twice.

Speak up

It is better to ask about a fight that you have never done before the fight then to say you didn't know after you caused a wipe. Myself, and many like me, would gladly explain everything you need to know but don't take kindly to our time being wasted. It is not a waste of time to explain the fight but it is a waste of time to wipe because you did not tell people you have never done it before.
Beware: There are some jerks that will kick you because you do not know a fight but be sure of the fact that they are, excuse the language, low life scum. You are better off not playing with someone like that anyway.

Be Decent

Take some time to at least have a basic knowledge of your class. Someone doing 8K that looks like they are trying is better then someone doing 8K that doesn't look like they are even trying. Good players can tell the difference. You do not need to be a great player, but at least try your best.

Be Nice

Say hello at the start, say thanks for the run at the end. If you feel so inclined you might even add a have a nice day as well before you leave. As small as those things are it is a proven fact that good vibes (as well as bad ones) are contagious. If you are nice to other people even in passing they will be more likely to be nice to others themselves and the community needs more people like that.

I remember a Grim Batol pug that lasted about 2 hours. All because I wanted to goodie bag at the end. I was the only original member at the end of it. Although usually if you go in with another person you know, like tank/healer combo, at least you 2 can set the pace. I have been known to leave after the 1st boss though if the group is just that horrible.

You got randomed for the week as well Logtar :) You should get a popular award!!

I know Blizz are saying that raiding numbers have increased since LFR, and I think that is great, but I also wonder how many people it turns away given there seems to be complete chaos in some runs.

I only run it weekly on 3 different toons, so I can't speak for some who run it on more than me, but I see enough to know that it would scare me senseless if I was a first timer or still unsure of myself in a raiding environment.

I don't count LFR and LFD as community. They might as well be NPCs helping you out, and many people will hopefully come to the same conclusion after doing LFR. they might struggle through it and think: now imagine doing that with people that actually know what to do, being lead over voicechat!

The real community (guilds, and servers to a lesser extent) will keep training itself.
From being an officer for over three years in the same guild, I've seen plenty of raid leaders appear. They mostly stand out from the regular member base because they research more than your average member. Perhaps they have their own unique way of explaining things.

I don't have experience in raid leading, but i did pass on The Way of the Tank back in TBC to some of our best tanks today.

I think if you go to early LFR you'll find that there is more leading, well I'm hoping so. I think as it gets later in the expansion people get a bit more blase and think everyone knows all the fights. I'm glad to see that the gentle prodding worked. Got you posting pretty quick :)
